These are body measurements. Measure your body, not a garment you own, and choose the size closest to your chest measurement.

Between two sizes, or a different size for chest and waist? Choose My own measurements when you order and we will cut to your numbers.

How to measure yourself

For a size from the chart you only need steps 1 to 5. For My own measurements, send us all seventeen. It takes about ten minutes with a helper.

  1. Neck

Wrap the tape around the base of your neck, where a collar would sit. Keep one finger between the tape and your neck.

  2. Shoulder

With your arms relaxed, measure across your back from the tip of one shoulder bone to the other, following the natural curve.

  3. Chest

Lift your arms slightly, pass the tape around the fullest part of your chest and under your arms, then lower them. Keep the tape level across your back and breathe normally.

  4. Waist

Measure around your natural waist, at the level of your navel. Stand relaxed and don't hold your stomach in.

  5. Hips (seat)

Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your seat.

  6. Sleeve length

From the tip of the shoulder bone, run the tape over a slightly bent elbow down to the wrist bone.

  7. Bicep

Measure around the fullest part of your upper arm, with the arm relaxed at your side.

  8. Wrist

Measure around your wrist, just above the wrist bone.

  9. Jacket length

From the highest point of your shoulder, next to the neck, measure straight down to where you want the sherwani, bandhgala, Nehru jacket or suit jacket to end.

  10. Kurta or shirt length

From the same point at the top of your shoulder, measure straight down to where you want the kurta or shirt to end. Kurtas usually fall around the knee; shirts end at the hip.

  11. Trouser waist

Measure around the point where you wear your trousers, usually a little below your natural waist.

  12. Thigh

Measure around the fullest part of your upper thigh, close to the crotch.

  13. Knee

With your leg straight, measure around the middle of the knee.

  14. Ankle

Measure around your ankle bone. For churidars and slim trousers, this sets the hem opening.

  15. Trouser length

Along the outside of your leg, measure from your trouser waist down to where you want the hem to fall. Wear the shoes you plan to wear, if you can.

  16. Inseam

Measure along the inside of your leg, from the crotch down to where you want the hem to fall.

  17. Height

Stand straight against a wall without shoes and measure from the floor to the top of your head. Note it in feet and inches, for example 5'10". It helps us balance the proportions of long garments.

Before you start

  • Use a soft tailor's tape, not a metal one.
  • Wear a thin shirt and trousers, with no belt and nothing in your pockets.
  • Ask someone to measure you. It is hard to keep the tape level on your own.
  • Stand naturally with your feet together and shoulders relaxed. Don't hold your breath or pull in your stomach.
  • Keep the tape snug but not tight, and level all the way round.
  • Record everything in inches, and your height in feet and inches. Measure twice. If the two readings differ, send both.
